Problems arising from inner-cooled tools

Read here, why inner-cooled tools have advantages regarding production speed and quality but cause challenges regarding to air cleaning devices...

By employing inner-cooled tools, e.g. drills, advantages in high-speed tooling can be reached. The drill does not need to be released from the drill-hole in order to cool down the tool or remove chips. A continous drilling process is achieved, which allows deeper drill-holes and and a faster overall process. This is an advantage on the one hand which causes problems regarding air quality on the other hand: inner-cooled tools add to a very fine coolant mist inside the machine tool.

This mist is such fine and dense that sight inside the machine is diminished. The tooling process cannot be supervised properly anymore. This poses problems regarding tooling quality and work safety - for example tool crashes and dense fog after the tooling process cannot be avoided.

A solution in this case is an air cleaning unit, which is capable of coping with large quantities of very fine coolant mist. Such an air cleaning unit must feature a large active filter surface in order to filter out even smallest droplets and mist components. Important, too, is the right position of the extraction point inside the machine in order to avoid excess extraction of coolant.

We at ILT specialise in every kind of tooling process. Please contact us for further consulting regarding air quality in your production.
